Elbow Bursitis Without Pain

The anatomy of the human elbow is a very complex one. The elbow region, which consists of the joint also consists of several soft tissues (tendons, ligaments, muscles) along with nerves, blood vessels etc. Also, the elbow joint is one of the most used joints in our body. In order to keep the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the joint from getting irritated, fluid filled sacs called bursa are present. But over using the elbow can also result in the inflammation of the bursa leading to elbow bursitis.

Elbow Bursitis Without Pain:

One of the most interesting things about an inflamed bursa in the elbow is that the condition can present itself with or without pain.Despite an evident and visible swollen elbow, some people with an inflamed bursa do not suffer pain. Depending on the factors that are causing the inflammation, the presence or non-presence of the pain would vary.

Let us look at some of the factors that result in an inflamed elbow bursa without pain-

  • Excessive pressure on the bursa. This can be because of leaning on the elbow against a hard surface. In such cases, the bursa is sandwiched between the bone and the hard surface causing it to swell. This condition is also referred to as student’s elbow.
  • People suffering from arthritic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and gout are also known to inflame their bursa. Despite swelling, redness and warmth in the elbow, some people may not experience any pain except for a grinding sensation upon touching the elbow. Trying to apply pressure on the reddened region will although cause pain.

Treatment:

Most people tend to ignore elbow bursitis that exists without pain. But, doing so would only aggravate the condition eventually resulting in severe pain. So, what should be done?

  • Ice packs.

Probably the best way to alleviate swelling. Massage the swollen elbow region with ice packs for 10-15 minutes (not more than that). Repeat this process 3-4 times in a day, eventually the swelling would begin to reduce.

  • Wraps.

Wrap the swollen region for the swelling to recede. But make sure that you do not wrap it very tight, as it will start to numb your fingers.

  • Elbow pads.

Elbow pads can help ease the pressure on the elbow and also heal the inflammation quickly.

This was all about Elbow Bursitis without pain.We hope that you would follow the above treatment for a healthy life!
